Big Bull

2019 Archery bull

We hunt in the Bridger-Teton National Forest and the Gros Ventre Wilderness, we are situated in a prime location, and able to make the most of our prolific area.

A large local herd population enables us to maintain a shot opportunity success rate. In fact, in the last 3 years, we have maintained a 100% opportunity rate. Many of our archery hunters have had multiple options!

We are able to hunt elk from three different camp locations. This gives us the flexibility to be where the elk are at the time you are here hunting.

This is five day of hunting, the pack in and pack out days are not counted as hunting days. Our highly qualified guides put in the time and do the research to help make your hunt a success.

We have quality archery and rifle hunting in our area!

We highly recommend conditioning yourself before embarking on your trip. The high altitude and rugged terrain are obstacles that are less inhibiting as you hunt if you take the time to prepare yourself physically. As you plan, remember, also, that there will be some unavoidable riding, thus, spending some time on horseback prior to your hunt is advised. The more physically conditioned you are, the more hunting options and opportunities will be available to you. Hunting here is a physical activity, you will likely be up well before the sun and riding or walking much of the day.

This season starts at the beginning of September, and the mountains are alive with bugling animals. The elk are grouping up and we can go to where they are.

Generally, the weather is mild at this time, especially earlier in the month, but there will likely be some snow before the season ends and temps will range from 0 to 60 degrees.

On this hunt, there is both hiking and horseback riding required and some physical conditioning is strongly suggested. We can often locate the elk by their bugling and may travel long distances to get to the largest bull. Typically elk hunting occurs at lower elevations than our deer hunting, usually within 7,000 to 9,500 feet. It consists of mostly heavy timber and open grassy pockets or meadows.

When applying for a license, apply for a General license.

In addition to the Conservation stamp and feed ground stamp, Archery elk hunters are required to purchase an archery license.

Wyoming Elk hunting for rifle season in our area starts in the middle of October and runs through the end of the month. Often by this time of year, there is snow in the mountains and the elk are moving down. There is little to no bugling by this time, as well.

If we have sighted elk, and know where we are going, we will be in the saddle well before daylight.
Elk hunters are required to purchase a feed ground stamp as well as their Conservation stamp. We are in the General area when applying for your license.

Hunters are encouraged to add preference points to their budget for added benefits.

Important Information

For information about licensing and hunt areas, go to Wyoming Game & Fish Department.  We are happy to offer any assistance with this process.

Our areas are units 84, 86, & 87.  We are primarily in unit 87. When applying, we are in the GENERAL area.

Elk applications must be in by January 31.

All online applications must arrive in the Cheyenne office by midnight mountain standard time (MST) on the deadline date. Fees must be paid in full when the application is submitted. Unsuccessful applicants will be refunded their license fees minus the application fee.

Preference Points: All applicants have the option of purchasing preference points to help assure they will draw a license. Applications for preference points can be obtained in July and must be submitted by the end of October to receive this advantage for the following year. We strongly advise the purchase of a preference point. The cost for elk preference point is $50.

A payment of $500 is required to secure a booking. This can be refunded if you are unsuccessful in drawing a license.  If you choose to not apply in a given year, after reserving a spot, you must give us six months notice from the opening date of the application period for a refund. Upon successful drawing of a license, a deposit of 1/2 of the cost of the hunt solidifies your reservation. Once a booking is made, the deposit is not refundable. The balance is due two weeks prior to your hunt.

Hunters who are unsuccessful in the drawing will receive a deposit refund within 30 days, if requested; or may apply the deposit to either a future hunt or one of our other great activities.
